The Role:
We are on the hunt for a Senior People & Culture Manager who can roll their sleeves up and support our fast-growing business. Your role will be to provide support to the Australian team in a way that improves the employee experience and helps connect the team to each other and to the global organisation. You will draw on the global resources of the wider business and help connect global policies to a local experience that benefits our employees.
This is a role that stretches from leadership support to hands-on detail and there’s a great opportunity to design and deliver initiatives that make a huge difference to the team. You will be involved in all aspects of the employee lifecycle from talent acquisition and onboarding to talent management, employee and team development, employee relations and all foundational HR administration.
Flexibility:
The ideal candidate would be based in Melbourne, Australia available ASAP and be in the office 2-3 days per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays as a minimum). Aside from these requirements, we generally work flexibly and are open to flexible arrangements.

Key Responsibilities:
Culture / Team Engagement
- Administer the quarterly employee engagement survey.
- Create and take ownership of an annual calendar, providing a strategic plan for social and cultural events across the year that support a collaborative inclusive team.
- Guide on employee communications, including support for regular All Hands meetings and other events to support team relationships and business communication
Strategic Partnership
- Collaborate with the leadership team to develop and implement HR strategies that support SquareTrade’s goals.
- Provide expert HR guidance to managers and employees on a variety of issues including performance management, organisational development, and employee relations.
Employee Development
- Identify training needs and coordinate professional development programs.
- Support managers in creating and implementing career development plans for their teams.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and development.
- Work with EU based colleague who guides L&D strategy and delivery.
Performance Management
- Work with the SquareTrade US HR team to manage the AU performance review process.
- Provide coaching and support to managers on performance management and improvement plans.
Employee Relations
- Address and resolve employee relations issues in a fair and consistent manner.
- Conduct investigations and provide recommendations on disciplinary actions.
- Promote a positive and inclusive work environment through proactive HR initiatives.
HR Policies and Compliance
- Ensure all HR policies and procedures comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in employment law and HR best practices.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with SquareTrade’s goals.
Compensation and Benefits
- Assist in the development and administration of compensation and benefits programs.
- Provide guidance on salary reviews and promotions.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of experience as an HR Generalist or similar role.
- Familiarity with working in a start-up environment is highly desirable.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or HR certifications is a plus.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of HR principles, practices, and employment laws in Australia.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Good at building strong trusted relationships remotely.
- Able to work asynchronously to manage inconvenient time zones.
- Able and content to work autonomously.
- Able to escalate the right items with the right level of detail at the right time.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions.
- Proficiency in HR software and Microsoft Teams.
