The Role
The Director of People plays a critical role as primary business partner for our Retail Operations team with an emphasis on compliance, employee relations, investigations, performance management, talent management, and leadership training. In addition to providing support as the primary business partner for the Retail Operations team, the Director of People drives the human resources strategy across the retail environment and fosters a culture of continuous improvement and development across all teams.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance Management
- Ensure compliance with ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local employment laws and regulations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all matters related to the ADA and FMLA.
Employee Relations (full cycle)
- Manage full cycle employee relations autonomously, taking ownership of all processes from intake to resolution.
- Tier one support for all employee relations matters, and address employee grievances, conflicts, and issues in a fair and consistent manner.
- Employee Relations (ER) & ADA Reporting: maintain and update all relevant employee relations and ADA-related reports. Regularly share updates and findings with senior management and other stakeholders as necessary.
- Confidentiality: Ensure all investigations and employee relations matters are handled with the utmost confidentiality and sensitivity.
- Act as a trusted advisor to employees and management, fostering positive working relationships.
Talent Management
- Lead all aspects of performance management, including coaching, feedback, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Lead performance management initiatives, working closely with department heads to review performance evaluations and develop improvement strategies.
- Partner with hiring managers to define talent needs and provide input on workforce planning.
- Oversee and manage the termination process, ensuring compliance with legal standards and best practices.
Training and Development
- Design and deliver training programs for the management team, focusing on leadership development, managerial intelligence, and building strong leadership acumen.
- Ensure that training programs align with Pressed Juicery’s strategic goals and are tailored to address both individual and organizational needs.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and development across all teams.
Retail and Manufacturing Oversight
- Ensure that safety protocols are implemented and followed across both retail and manufacturing sectors.
- Work closely with operations leaders in manufacturing to address workforce challenges, enhance employee engagement, and improve productivity.
- Assist retail leaders with HR matters, focusing on safety and compliance, and employee performance.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in human resources, with at least 2 years as a director (or equivalent leadership role).
- Experience managing HR in a retail environment (preferred).
- Deep understanding and comprehensive knowledge of the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act), FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), and other relevant federal, state and local employment laws.
- Experience with complex employee relations matters, including but not limited to, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, wage and hours laws, enhancing leadership acumen and managerial intelligence.
- Proven experience in employment law, employee relations, investigations, and performance management.
- Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to train and develop management teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities and conflict resolution skills.
- Managerial intelligence and leadership acumen with the ability to mentor others.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
