ER & Policy Specialist
The People team are currently looking for an Employee Relations & Policy Specialist to provide expert, trusted and comprehensive advice across the full spectrum of ER across the UK. This role will support the Senior ER specialist, CHROs and Business Partners, and People functions (Talent, Reward etc) and business on all restructuring programmes, policy development and complex case management.
The Employee Relations & Policy Specialist will also participate in the delivery of global ER projects (including TUPE) as identified in the region, ensuring ER policies and procedures are up to date and in line with global commitments and engage relevant internal and external stakeholders as appropriate, including employment counsel.
Day to day responsibilities:
Point of contact for providing advice and guidance to managers and HRBP’s on all employee relations matters across primarily UK.
- Provide ER expertise to support employees and managers deal informally and, where necessary formally, with regards to ER matters (e.g. Grievance, Disciplinary, Performance, Absence, Parent Leave, Changes to contractual terms etc).
- Provide a proactive and/or “on demand” advisory and consultancy service to people managers on a range of ER/human resource issues, employee life cycle procedures and policies consistent with employee standards, legislation, and guidelines
- Utilise technology, including our case management tracker system, to deliver a quality service to our customers across the UK/Global & develop and provide timely and accurate data / insight to the business on ER issues.
- Adopt a consultative approach by building strong relationships across the business and the wider People function.
- To act as an operational Project Manager in the delivery of specific ER and Transformation Programmes
- Ensure employment policies and practices comply with relevant employment regulations, overseeing the company-wide application of workplace policies and procedures & to participate in the development, updating and revision of HR Policies, guidance and document templates as requested both in the UK and other countries.
- Act as a point of contact for internal and external legal advisors (iGlobal), to ensure legal risks are fully considered and advice and guidance to divisional People teams is consistent.
- Liaise with Legal, Risk & Compliance, Internal Audit and Privacy Officer as appropriate in Speak Up/Whistleblowing matters.
- Advise managers on TUPE and policy in line with current legislation and drive consistent application of policy and procedure, escalating issues to CHRO and employment counsel as appropriate.
- Support and advise on ad-hoc People function programmes (Reward, Talent Diversity etc), seeking employment legal advice as appropriate.
- Provide central governance and guidance for change programmes and consultation activities, ensuring relevant HR policies and procedures are adhered to in a fair, consistent and professional manner (including collective consultation requirements (TUPE, M&A, Restructuring)).
- Provide advice and guidance on the handling of protected conversations and managing negotiations.
- Coach management in handling and dealing with employee relations issues and processes.
- Identify, and drive, ideas and programmes to foster a constructive employee relations culture to achieve a business that is fair, respectful, and consistent.
- Partner with L&D to develop and deliver training and development to upskill leaders on ER related matters.
Essential Traits:
Demonstrate strong employee relations experience with a solid understanding of specifically UK employment law and associated regulations.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Developed project management skills - use of presentation tools (PowerPoint, etc) to facilitate & demonstrate project implementation processes & actions
- Ability to juggle and prioritise multiple wide-ranging issues simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Utilise all available resources and toolsets to investigate and resolve problems, ensuring the most appropriate solution is identified.
- Creative ‘can-do’ attitude, proven negotiation skills with confidence in relationship management at all levels
- Demonstrable skills in building relationships
- Collaborative, pragmatic, proactive and empathetic - able to see things from all perspectives.
- Ability to work well in a team and to work on own initiative

- Degree or equivalent and / or relevant ER/Legal qualification - including previous HR/ER Experience.
- CIPD qualified or other equivalent.
- Employee Relations experience 5 years +.
- TUPE experience/Mergers & Acquisitions
- Policy development experience
- Project Management/Stakeholder management experience.
- Experience of working in fast paced, global, regulated, and matrixed organisation during a time of significant change.
- Broad understanding of UK employment law and its practical application.
- ER / HR Policy development.
