The RoleThe Director of Learning & Development is a pivotal leadership role designed to lead the training strategy and cadences across the organization. You will act as a trusted partner to the Head of Employee Experience, driving cross-functional initiatives, fostering alignment on training priorities, and supporting the company’s transformation and supporting education. This role requires exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills, coupled with a learning-first mindset and passion for building scalable organizational practices in a fast-paced environment.
ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership:
- Partner with the Head of Employee Experience to set the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Learning Team, ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Lead efforts to build scalable learning and development cadences that establish consistent foundational knowledge of Metropolis as a product-led technology company.
- Act as a trusted thought partner to cross-functional leaders, subject matter experts, and Center of Excellence teams to action against priorities in real-time.
- Coach and manage a team of L&D specialists and instructional designers.
Training Excellence:
- Review current suite of tools and resources to unlock new capabilities, staying up-to-date with emerging technologies in preparation for a future HRIS / LMS migration.
- Analyze existing training offerings and revise / repackage to support an elevated training strategy in support of Metropolis’ mission and core values.
- Provide instructional design support and leadership to cement brand consistency and solve for the nuance of the varied employee population.
- Leverage external training programs to further enhance internal development efforts.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to reset on day one training requirements and continuous education initiatives, particularly for the Commercial organization.
- Deliver insights tied to utilization and feedback across employee engagement and learning initiatives, and establish related KPIs.
- Develop dashboards and reports that empower the People Team and functional leaders to make informed decisions.
- Establish and maintain the L&D budget.
- Manage key integration priorities following acquisitions.
Communication & Stakeholder Management:
- Engage with cross-functional leaders to design tailored learning programs that are role- or function-specific.
- Collaborate with HRBPs and Talent Acquisition leaders to ensure L&D efforts are aligned with the broader People strategy.
- Develop compelling presentations and narratives to communicate People strategies and outcomes.
Qualifications
- Experience: 10+ years in People/HR roles, ideally in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment with exposure to acquisition environments or similar large-scale transformations.
- L&D Expertise: Proven experience in the domain of Learning & Development and instructional design, with expertise across a variety of training and coaching methodologies.
- Strategic Acumen: Demonstrated ability to think strategically while executing tactically in high-growth environments.
- Project Management: Exceptional project management skills with experience in managing complex, cross-functional initiatives.
- Communication Skills: Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and present to diverse audiences.
- Adaptability: Proven talent as a "chaos pilot" who thrives in dynamic, ambiguous environments requiring quick decisions with imperfect information.
Preferred:
- Experience in transportation, mobility, real estate, or logistics industries is a plus.
- Advanced education in education, HR, or related fields is highly desirable.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $170,000.00 to $195,000.00 annually. The actual base salary offered is determined by a number of variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location of residence and/or place of employment. Base salary is one component of Metropolis’s total compensation package, which may also include access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a lucrative stock option plan, bonus plans and more.
