About the Role
This role assists the General Manager – Employee & Industrial Relations in providing employment advice to ensure workplace legislative compliance across Wesley Mission Queensland (WMQ).
The position is responsible for providing employment advice to deliver significant and consistent outcomes per the industrial framework and support organisational goals and enable consistency of practice and high-level specialist advice.
Key Role Accountabilities:
- Align one’s workplace behaviour in accordance with the WMQ Model of Care, the Wesley Charter and Wesley Mission Queensland’s Vision, Mission and Values.
- Work collaboratively under the direction of the General Manager - Employee & Industrial Relations to manage the development and service delivery of people and culture initiatives at WMQ.
- Undertake detailed research and analysis within a complex industrial framework to develop advice and recommendations for strategic documents relating to employment matters and drive the implementation of such outcomes. For example, payroll audits, transfer of business entity processes and the application of new Enterprise Agreements and Awards.
- Work with the payroll team to ensure that the implementation of industrial instruments is accurate and compliant.
- Provide expert advice and detailed recommendations on appropriate management and resolution of employment matters, comprising interpreting and applying industrial instruments including assisting with Enterprise Bargaining.
- Provide specialised support at various tribunals and commissions, including (but not limited to) the Fair Work Commission, including drafting detailed responses to applications on behalf of WMQ.
- Prepare and present high-quality and timely submissions, reports, briefing notes, and correspondence about people management issues.
- Build and sustain partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate working relationships that improve people outcomes for WMQ.
- Support the General Manager - Employee & Industrial Relations in planning and delivering specific people and culture-related projects, initiatives, strategies and processes focusing on contemporary people issues, theories and practices to improve business processes.
- Pro-active engagement in monitoring data quality and information management - per legislation, standards, policies and procedures.
- Pro-actively participate in a working environment that supports quality people and culture management practices, including employment equity, anti-discrimination, workplace health and safety, and ethical behaviour.
- Follow defined service quality standards, occupational health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work undertaken to ensure high-quality, safe services and workplaces.
- Fulfil the responsibilities of this role per WMQ Values.
About You
- Bachelor of Laws or studying toward completion or Bachelor and/or master’s in human resources and/or Project Management.
- Must have proven high-level experience in a similar role.
- Holder of a current Queensland driver’s licence and willingness to drive to various WMQ sites during duties.
- Proven track record including leading compliance projects as well as designing and conducting audits.
- Strong knowledge of Industrial Relations and Employment Relations practices and demonstrated experience accurately interpreting a range of Legislation, Awards, and Enterprise Agreements to provide high quality and pragmatic advice.
- Proven experience working within, or closely with, a payroll team with demonstrated payroll knowledge.
- Strong previous experience in assurance, legislative and corporate governance, and project management.
- Demonstrated ability to negotiate and liaise with internal and external stakeholders during the performance management process including staff, managers, industrial unions to achieve resolution of complex intra organisational conflict.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively conduct detailed research and undertake projects aimed at improving systems, processes and procedures.
- Excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills (including influencing, interviewing, counselling, negotiating, networking, and report writing) as well as the ability to build collaborative and effective working partnerships.
- Collaborate effectively with others as part of a high-performing team to ensure consistency of recommendations and support across WMQ.
- Strong PC-based applications skills in a Microsoft office environment.
- Well-developed organisational skills, including strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
- Experience serving on comparable government committees or boards, and/or knowledge of Audit & Risk Committees.
