The Directorate of Human Resources (HR) aims to support staff and managers by developing and adopting a range of strategies, expert advice, information and operational services. The People and Organisational Development Team are part of the HR Directorate and are responsible for providing a wide range of learning and development activities to support all staff to extend performance, increase operational capability and build organisational effectiveness.
Valuing Voices for Equitable and Responsible Research is a £1m two-year project funded by the Wellcome Trust which aims to transform research practices at York and share best practice nationally and internationally. The project will strengthen our research culture by embedding responsible and equitable practices in research design and delivery. The central project output will be a dynamic tool for supporting Equitable and Responsible Research that guides users through the application of ten core principles to their research. The project will also pilot a series of complementary interventions which will explore areas such as global equity in research, and new models for team working. Valuing Voices is a partnership between the University of York and Mahidol University in Thailand.
The role holder will be a key member of the Valuing Voices Project team and will work collaboratively with colleagues within HR to ensure any initiatives are aligned to and embedded within core University policies, practices and procedures.
You will act as the link between the Valuing Voices research project and HR leaders and specialists, pushing forward HR activities to promote equitable and responsible approaches to research.
You will use your knowledge of Research Culture development in Higher Education to research best, and emerging practice, to help the project team to trial new approaches to encouraging the diversification of research teams (through, for example, new approaches to recruitment), and be an active team member, challenging and influencing discussions and participating in shaping the project as it progresses.
- Good, up to date knowledge and experience of areas of HR including employee relations, employer law, EDI, career development and HR policy & practice
- Knowledge of Research Culture development in Higher Education
- Ability to work with senior leaders and specialists to coordinate and drive forward activity
- Proactive in finding creative solutions to often complex issues
- Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list). We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-uk qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
- Ability to take ownership for / Hold a significant role in the delivery of distinct pieces of work e.g. leading a project
- Ability to gather, analyse, interpret and report complex data/information
- Ability to use digital technologies including Google applications and/or Microsoft Office
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written formats, including the use of a variety of digital tools
- Ability to work collaboratively with others
- Commitment to development of self and others, identifying and implementing continuous improvement
- Active champion of respect, inclusivity, equality and diversity
