Position Summary
The Director, People & Culture will become the first in-house human resources expert at the firm and will ideally be based in the Los Angeles office, reporting to senior management. (Strong candidates who could be based out of the Brooklyn office will also be considered.) The Director, People & Culture will provide both strategic guidance to senior management and senior agents, while also being hands-on in a wide range of HR subdisciplines, including employment policies and compliance, employee relations, training, recruiting, onboarding, employee benefits, employee experience, culture shaping, and more. This role will directly enable the business to expand, managers to lead, and employees to grow.
Specific Responsibilities
- Develop an overall strategy for human resources management and deliver services that benefit employees and the company as a whole.
- Set up process, systems and tools around compensation, benefits, goal setting, performance reviews, recruiting, onboarding and offboarding and other core functions.
- Have effective relationships at all levels from assistants to senior agents, to anticipate and solve needs and concerns as they arise.
- Be an ambassador for the company’s values, and a steward of an environment where employees are encouraged and enabled to develop their skills, bring their passion for music to work, are treated fairly and reasonably, and are provided greater opportunities and challenges.
- Own the Employee Relations function, acting as a partner to senior management in regard to monitoring company culture and employee experience, and fielding concerns and suggestions from staff.
- Provide employee coaching, counseling, facilitation and best practices guidance around employee relations.
- Partner with the executive team to ensure compliance with all required HR laws and regulations (e.g., employee handbook, compliance, training, etc.).
- Conduct internal and external analysis to support data informed decisions in areas of policies, benefits, compensation and more, and to ensure the company remains competitive.
- Manage the outside relationship with TriNet and more fully leverage services and tools included in the PEO relationship.
- Propose, create and lead initiatives that accelerate learning, streamline people-practices, provide goal setting and feedback, deepen employee engagement experiences and foster positive company culture that enables people to be their best and provide great services to the firm’s artist clients.
- Partner closely with the executive team to creatively design and execute recruiting strategies and programs that support the business.
- Seek and leverage strategic HR expertise from outside partners selected by the senior executive team such as EnterGain.
- Deploy employee engagement initiatives such as employee surveys and exit interviews to assess potential opportunities to improve the employee experience.
- Monitor industry trends to ensure the company is both compliant with employment regulations across locations and makes the company a great place to work.
Requirements
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in human resources spanning a range of generalist or business partner disciplines, including employee relations, employment policies and compliance, training, recruiting, onboarding, employee benefits, and employee experience.
- Experience developing and implementing DEI programs that create a sense of welcoming and belonging for all colleagues at all junctures in the employment lifecycle.
- In-depth experience in employment compliance, with the ability to lead, understanding and resolving employee relations matters that may come up from time to time.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills to provide clarity on employee experience, employment compliance, recruiting vision, strategy, and status to key partners.
- Effectively interact with stakeholders at all levels of responsibility and authority; able to prioritize and support an environment driven by customer service and teamwork.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of industry trends and best practices, as well as a deep understanding of employment compliance and regulatory requirements.
- Successful experience in sourcing, screening, and recruiting top talent.
- Able to be highly productive and influential in a fast-paced environment while balancing longer-term strategic initiatives with more immediate priorities.
- Able to handle exposure to and management of sensitive and/or confidential material with discretion and care.
- Highest degree of ethics, work ethic, empathy, and collaboration.
- Able to focus on goals and deliverables while participating in and contributing to a fun work environment.
Compensation
A competitive salary and benefits package will be offered, commensurate with the role and the relevant skills and experience of the final hire. Currently the role is budgeted at a base salary at an annual rate between $100K to $125K depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, location and network of the final hire.
