Who We Want
The Director of People will lead and scale Evolve’s people operations during a high-growth phase, bringing both strategic insight and hands-on execution. As a member of the leadership team, this role will shape a strong culture, drive employee experience, and develop scalable people systems for a dynamic, entrepreneurial tech startup environment. The ideal candidate has previously built and led HR functions in early- to mid-stage startups and understands how to balance culture, compliance, and business needs as a company grows.
Reporting
Reports directly to the CEO.
Responsibilities
People Strategy and Culture
- Build and execute a people strategy aligned with Evolve’s growth trajectory and startup ethos.
- Foster a mission-driven, inclusive, and resilient culture in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
- Serve as a key advisor to founders and leadership on scaling teams, org design, and cultural evolution.
Talent Acquisition and Onboarding
- Design and lead talent acquisition efforts that attract high-performing individuals who thrive in startup settings.
- Create and iterate on onboarding programs to quickly immerse new hires into the company’s mission, tools, and team dynamics.
Employee Engagement and Development
- Implement frameworks that measure and elevate employee engagement, morale, and retention.
- Develop and deliver career pathing, performance coaching, and leadership development tailored for a scaling organization.
- Act as a trusted coach and sounding board to managers and employees alike.
Performance and Organizational Development
- Launch and refine lightweight, scalable performance management systems fit for a tech startup.
- Identify gaps in org structure and facilitate clear communication, accountability, and growth across departments.
HR Infrastructure and Compliance
- Build foundational HR systems and processes (e.g., policies, HRIS, documentation) with an eye toward future scale.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws while maintaining startup agility.
Total Rewards and Operations
- Oversee total rewards programs, ensuring leadership and employees understand the company’s compensation philosophy, equity plans, and benefits offerings through clear communication and education.
- Analyze people data and key metrics to drive informed, timely decisions.
Change Management and Communication
- Lead communication during growth, change, and reorganization with clarity and empathy.
- Build a culture of feedback, experimentation, and learning from failure.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, or related field required; Master’s degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-SCP, SPHR) a plus.
- Startup Experience: 5–10+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role at a tech startup.
- Builder Mentality: Proven track record of building people programs, policies, and culture from the ground up.
- Agile Execution: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, wearing multiple hats, and building infrastructure while scaling rapidly.
- Strategic Partnership: Strong executive presence with the ability to advise and influence founders and senior leaders.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills across all levels of the organization.
- People Tech Fluency: Familiarity with modern HRIS, ATS, and engagement tools used in tech startups (e.g., Gusto).
- Adaptability: High EQ, resilience, and comfort leading through high-growth, change-heavy environments.
